Why did Bella jump off the cliff in new moon?

During the book New Moon by Stephenie Meyer, the character Bella contemplates the idea of jumping off a cliff on page 358, but actually jumps off on page 359. The chapter where it happens is called Pressure. I checked this information out, and who ever wrote this is exactly right, just thought you should know incase you thought it was a spam. you should totally read new moon dont skip it i did and now i am confussed

Bella jumped off the cliff in New Moon the book and the movie as well because she promised Edward that she wouldn't do anything stupid or reckless but when she does she hears Edwards voice and that is why she rides the motorcycle and jumps off the cliff.

Yes, but into the water, for an adrenaline rush. Jacob saves her from drowning. Her reason for doing so was because whenever she was in danger/had an adrenaline rush, she would see an illusion of Edward.

She had made a promise to Edward, to not do anything stupid or reckless,but Edward broke all of his promises,therefore she not longer needs to keep her promises he left her. Also jumping off a cliff is stupid & reckless and when she is doing unsafe things she is able to hear his voice in her head once again.

Off a cliff. She jumps off a cliff--not to kill herself, it's for recreation. It's after she jumps and starts to kind of drown that she decides to just stop fighting. It wasn't planned--she just meant to do it for fun and ended up not fighting to get to the surface because she saw Edward the Hallucination and she decided to stop fighting because Edward--though not the actual Edward--was there and she'd get to see him one last time and have her final moments with him--kind of. But she doesn't die--obviously if there are two books following New Moon.
