In my experience with muscle spasms in my calf, I and my toes are turned upward, I don't fight it, I don't try to straighten my toes, I force into the direction it wants to go. Otherwise the pain only gets worse. But if I force the way it wants to go, it will ease in a couple of minute's. The muscle will be sore for a few hours but it will go away pretty quickly. I hope it help someone.
In case of muscle cramp, try stretching and messaging your muscle. Non steroidal anti-inflammatory medications can also help in such a situation. Also, drink plenty of fluids while exercising and increase your potassium intake.
