Well alot of times they would place light skin and/or mixed children in better jobs. Sadly the darker you were the more hard times you got. For example a dark skinned person would be doing hard labor. While the light skinned person might be found cooking or cleaning the houses or even getting firewood ect.
But all depends where and when. Some people got it same and sometimes people got it better or worse.
