Laws vary by jurisdiction... they can never force their way into a locked building, enter any vehicle other than the one they're repossessing, or open a locked gate... in most jurisdictions, they can open an unlocked gate, so long as they do it within the laws requiring peaceful repossession.

WE ACTUALLY HAVE A REPO T.V. SHOW. IF YOUR GATE IS LOCKED THEY CAN'T ENTER. IF YOU GET IN THE CAR THE CAN'T TAKE THE CAR, THAT'S KIDNAPPING (BEING MOVED 3 FEET BEYOND YOU WILL). THEY CAN CALL THE POLICE. YES THE POLICE WILL BE ON THE SCENE WHILE THE REPO MAN DO HIS JOB.

A repo man is not allowed to move a vehicle or open gate or anything to get what he wants. If the garage dor was open it would be a different story. depending on the state a repo man can open a garage door to get collateral as long as he does not committ another crim in the process! i know Ohio, Indiana, and Tennessee you can for sure.... Michigan i think it depends on how the loan was writen! In NJ, they cannot.If the car is in sight and where they can tow it, that is, without damage to the property. They cannot sneak around the property looking for the vehicle.

READ your contract for details. They had to pay the repoman to go to the gate, to find you, its a fee incurred to service your account while in default.
