Nationalism can refer to an ideology, sentiment a form of culture or a social movement that focuses on the nation.

The ardent Panslavism of Serbia and Russia's willingness to support its Slavic brother conflicted with Austria-Hungary's Pan-Germanism.

On the 28th of June 1914 Archduke Franz Ferdinand heir to the Austro-Hungaria throne was assassinated in Sarajevo (the capital of Bosnia) by a Serbian terrorist group called the "Black Hand". the "Black Hand's" want of freedom and more influence over there country from the Austro-Hungarias government lead them to devise the plan of this assassination. this act of nationalism in raged the Austro-Hugaria government. which then lead to them sending one of the most harsh Ultimatums (a declaration of war) ever sent in recorded history. The Serbs could not decline this Ultimatum. The Astro-Hungaria's then got a "Blank cheque" (Had complete back up) from the Germans. but so did Russia for Serbia and so the alliance systems began to kick in and Great War Began...
