John Rait started out as a competitive figure skater his career culminating in his winning the 1980 World Professional Ice Dance Championship with his partner Shelley MacLeod. After working successfully as a choreographer for skaters including Toller Cranston, Brian Pockar, Lynn Nightingale and the Rob McCall tribute show "Skate the Dream" as well as the final 3 seasons of the CTV series Stars on Ice he began a career in the Film and Television industry. Upon leaving the skating world John was hired as a Casting Director for the Canadian Broadcasting Association, working on series like Street Legal, Material World, Mr. Dressup, Adrienne Clarkson Presents and film projects such as Gross Misconduct, Shall We Dance, Ice Princess and Wojeck; Out of the Fire. His success in this field lead John to becoming a high profile talent agent with clientele that included Sandra Oh, Rachel McAdams, Paulo Costanzo and Shawn Doyle among a myriad of the top Canadian acting talent. John played a major role in the Canadian Film and Television industry for many years. He now owns and operates a small and successful art gallery in Toronto, Canada.
