Because ammo was more than likely low or gone. So she used quarters because with the power of the shotgun would wouk strong enough like a bullet. Also resident evil 4 (and maybe 5) you get money from killing the creatures so they found a way to add that into the movie as well.
Well other than this not working well at all in a 12ga or 10ga shotgun due to quarters having a diameter of around an 8ga shotgun... that they do not make... shooting quarters at Zombies would be pointless as they are not as heavy as lead and dont have the same power to penetrate their skulls... now you can load dimes into a 12ga but once again it would not be as effective.
I would personally load clipped off nail heads or nuts and bolts...
(newer answer) ok...they did make 8 gauge but way long to long ago so it would look like Alices shotguns(they dont make shells anymore i think)...and if you happen to find yourself in a survival situation where you have a 12gauge shot gun but no lead ammo you can use dimes.

Just a note. US quarter diameter is 24.26 mm. The only shotgun that is close to that caliber is Russian KS-23 chambered for 23 mm shell. However, it's a pump action, while Alice has sawed off double barrels.
Yes Alice does lose her powers. On Resident Evil: Afterlife, Alice is injected with a serum by Wesker that eliminates the t-cells in her body, taking away her powers. Alice is still tough though, and glad that she is human again.
Alice's full name in the Resident Evil movie series is Alice Abernathy.
1) resident evil, 2) resident evil Apocalypse 3) resident evil Extinction 4) resident evil Afterlife oh and there is an animated film called degeneration but that has a different story featuring leon from resident evil 4 (the game) although in order of release, it was made between Extinction and Afterlife there is also another live-action film (non animated) due to be released next year, or the following year to conclude Afterlife because it is left wide open at the end with Alice, Claire and Chris in abit of a tight situation but im not giving away any spoilers.
Alice is a character created for the FILMS. She is not part of the video game world, nor does the story line after the movie Resident Evil take place in any of the games. THough, Alice is supposed to be the character who was to first bring down Umbrella to uncover the secret bio-weaponary. She later is injected with the t-virus, but her genetic code can with-stand the mutation effect the virus has, but she has highten senses and strength.
hoble master The boots in Resident Evil Afterlife were made by Joie - they are specifically the women's refugee lace-up boot, which retail for about $500. The rest of her costume was designed by Milla Jovovich's clothing line Jovovich-Hawk.
No?
Alice
In the Resident Evil movies, Angela was killed between Resident Evil: Apocalypse and Resident Evil: Extinction by Alice when she was under the control of the Umbrella Corporation.
Alice is only in the Resident Evil books based off of the movies. So yes.
Never mind, I found it. It's called "Rooftop" by Tomandandy.
Her name is Alice Abernathy.
