There are lots of folk-tale type stories; more than could be given causally. But I'll start the list off * The Adventures of Tom Sawyer * Huckleberry Finn * Last of the Mohicans * The Deer Slayer * Jerimiah Johnson * Little Big Man * Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee

One of my favorite folk stories is STONE SOUP. It's a tale told a number of different ways in many countries.
It tells of strangers (sometimes vagabonds, sometimes soldiers) come to a poor village with nothing but a big pot. The villagers are not going to share their meager food with the strangers. The strangers set the pot in the middle of the village, they put a large stone in it, fill it with water and put it on a fire. As the villagers pass by and ask what they are making. They say they are making stone soup, which is delicious but they are missing a couple of the seasoning ingredients. On the promise of sharing some of this wonderful soup, one by one villagers come back with a carrot, a turnip, a potato, a beef bone, a pinch of salt, etc. until a wonderful smell starts to fill the village. The strangers share the soup and the strangers have a very nice meal.
In Portugal the dish of sopa de pedra (stone soup) is served in many restaurants. There is a version of the tale told about people during the depression using a large porous stone so that on days when they had some food they would cook it with the stone and on days when they didn't, they boiled some of the flavor out of the stone. The Chinese and Japanese have similar tales using a porous clay pot.

Folk literature in English refers to traditional stories, songs, and proverbs passed down orally from generation to generation. It includes folktales, legends, myths, and ballads that reflect the cultural beliefs, values, and customs of a particular community. Examples of English folk literature include Robin Hood tales, Arthurian legends, and nursery rhymes.
Some of the most famous examples of Mexican folk art include vases, wall hangings and toys as well as other items that represent celebrations. Almost all folk art are handcrafted.
