There are different views on this subject, because although the north had the advantage in population, manufacturing, and transportation, the south had a greater percentage of their population that were able to fight, were fighting on their home turf (for the most part), and had superior military figures (for example, Robert E. Lee). However, the overall view of the issue puts the north as being favored to win.
