Louisiana's First Day of Rock and Roll was held on Jun.10.1979, in New Orleans, LA, at the Superdome. The performers were in this order: Granadie or Neville Brothers (sorry I don't remember), Sammy Hagar, Van Halen, Boston, Heart, and Blue Oyster Cult. I was there and it was an awesome event for me, a 18 year old. I think the concert lasted from 11am until about 1 or 2am. Sammy Hagar had left Montrose just 3 years prior and was out on his own with hits like Bad Motor Scooter and Red. Sammy was just plain awesome. Van Halen, which was so young and just getting started at the time, were absolutely over the top the way their show started. VH started out with the song Eruption being played by Eddie and stage was dark. About 20 seconds into the song Eddie comes out onto the stage with only one spot light on him and totally rips us up a new one. Up until that time Van Halen had only played one other super big show and that was the Texas Jam and the only song on the radio for Van Halen at the time was Jamie's Crying. Needless to say, with Eddies incredible guitar playing, they were starting their skyrocket climb up the charts with this show and the one in Texas. Boston at the time was very big on the FM radio and they were on tour supporting their second album Don't Look Back. They were the first band I had seen that sounded exactly like the album. Heart who had finally seen success in 1975, was supporting their album Dog and Butterfly. They played great. And finally Blue Oyster Cult came out on stage at 12:30am on tour playing the songs Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll and Don't Fear the Reaper. This concert is among my ten concerts of all time and I have seen 100's if not over a thousand.
