Several different generations of change seeking Chinese used Tienanmen square as a place for manifestation. During Mao Zedung's rule millions of Chinese students gathered there everyday to protest the government until, of course, the Tienanmen incident. On May 4th 1919, students demanding political and social reform gathered there to protests. That was the first mass movement in China's history.
