Very little mineral is available in the country. Uruguay is also bereft of the petroleum reserves. The power generated from the hydroelectricity is used for the purpose of the production of energy. Salto Grande is one of the principle hydroelectric power plants, which are constructed over the Uruguay River. Hydroelectricity is used for 75% production of energy.

Other plants, which are currently in the process of power generation, are located on the Brazilian border and another on Río Negro. The former was constructed in the year 1980. The government of Uruguay controls the electric power industry as well as the Natural Resources in Uruguay.
