Callaway is in fact an Irish name, originally spelled, Calliwea or Kellaway. Historians claim the name as scot-Irish and possibly Gaelic. Some people think the name to be English, however the Irish were highly discriminated upon their arrival to the United States and consequently, Callaway's may have tried to claim English roots to avoid persecution.

Im a, Callaway ,and our family has always maintained that we are Scot-Irish We have this, family crest first or coat of arms with a sword, bird, sta Andrews crosses, symbol and a pear on it. My great grandfathers name was Gaelic. Irish and scottish, its not all the same other than The geals who lived in high hills of Scotland, people of the mountains.
