I assume you're talking about the actor Gene Lyons, who was romantically involved with Grace Kelly in the early 1950s.
According to another ex-lover, actress Lee Grant, Lyons was overly fond of his whiskey (his preferred brand was Old Bushmills), and by the mid-50s was well on his way to acute Alcoholism. Unable to escape from under his addiction, Lyons' considerable abilities never carried him past supporting roles in numerous TV series of the 60s and 70s. He died of alcohol-related causes in 1974, at age 53. A sad waste of talent.
