Does anybody remember a TV show called only Maloney A Liverpool guy called Peter Maloney was the star he was a teacher at the then Cardinal Allen Grammar School?

I never saw it but Peter was my teacher at Saint Malachys in 1958 ish ,he was a good teacher ,I had a school photo ,I have lost it and I would like a copy if anyone has one it’s Peter Moloney and our class in the playground . Cheers

I attended St Malachy's Boys , Robertson Street between 1964-68 and remember there being a bit of a celebration day when Peter returned to visit the school, with press and possibly tv people in attendance. It seems he had taught there sometime in the late 1950's and had since gone on to bigger things.

He was obviously held in high regard and the headmaster was Mr O'Reilly (Dicko) and his deputy was Miss McBride ( Ma Bride). I seem to remember he had that lovely Irish, Scouse, and elegant twang and obviously a tremendous vocabulary and wit.

Sorry to see his obituary and was surprised to see he was only 24 years older than myself but it certainly brought back some warm memories of my childhood.

Peter Maloney was born on November 29, 1931. He's reputed to have held various jobs, including: missionary, lecturer, librarian, author, life guard, docker, navvy, parachutist, dental hygienist assistant and trappist monk. He was best known as a Liverpool schoolteacher who became a British national celebrity in the late 1960's after appearing on tv shows such as "The Ken Dodd Show" and "The Eamonn Andrews Show". He eventually got his own tv show called "Maloney on…." A series that gave full rein to his facile and highly penetrating intellect.

His expertise on Scouse (and all things Liverpudlian) won him national acclaim.

In 1967 he brought out a long-playing record (LP) called " A Load of Old Maloney - How to Speak Scouse Proper"; the record was a Mike Steyn production released on Big Ben Records, Cat no: BB00.02.

On side 1 were tracks: 1. Scouse vernaculary, merseypropism, faux pas de deux

2. Hesychastic hermeneutic howlers

3. Philological clangers

On side 2 were tracks: 1. Classroom clangers

2. Scouse semantics for skitten scuffers

3. Whackers wit

4. From bard to verse

The record was recorded from live performances held for Cambridge Union, Liverpool University, Christ's College, Dunham Golf and Country Club, Southport Dental Association and Stoke Round Table

A brilliant wit and raconteur - I once saw him on Parkinson and we had the whole audience in fits of laughter including Parky with his enunciation of the scouse dialogue complete with explanatory interpretation . One of the highlights of my teen years was watching and enjoying this wonderful man with his extraordinary wit which always had a humane and serious point behind it. Why are there no recordings of his many tv appearances?
