The bottom
A lock raises and lowers the boat to the level of the water in the next lock.
A lock. A lock raises and lowers a boat to the level of water in the next lock.
It doesn't raise the water level. It lowers it. Whoever told you that it raises the water level lied to you.
This is called a lock. It functions by either allowing water in or out to raise or lower a ship to match the water level on the other side. This helps vessels navigate through canals with varying water levels.
Failure at life
It lowers the freezing point and raises the boiling point of water.
sea level or water level raises
The water flows from the highest chamber to the lowest chamber. As the gate opens in the lowest chamber, the water level lowers to sea level, and the ship enters. The gate closes behind it, and water flows from the chamber above to the level of the next gate, and the process is repeated until the ship reaches the top level.
It is the locks in the canal. They raise and lower the water2 pairs of lock Gates are sited in a canal and act to separate the high water level from the low water level. These are large gates which are hinged such that they can be fully open or fully closed. They can only open when the water level is the same on both sides of one particular pair .This action is typically carried out manuallySluice gates are small gates which are built into all four lock gates . Water acting under the force of gravity will fill the space between each pair of lock gates. By selectively operating the sluices the water level between the 2 pair of gates can be exactly the same as the high water level or exactly the same as the low water level. The purpose of the system is to allow barges to be raised from low to high or conversely lowered from high to low. Obviously the barge has to be positioned between the pairs of gates when the water movement occurs.
The first red control wheel is to the left as you enter the water in the sewer room. this wheel lowers the water level. There are 2 more wheels back to the right as the water lowers. The far right one raises the water slightly, to the level of the wheel not as far right. When the water level is just below the Control Room door at upper left, duck under the wall to reach the door.*Do NOT turn the wheel nearest the door, or you will start the cycle all over again.
A store of water that can be relesed when the level in the canal has dropped due to leakage or evaporation
