The country code for Ireland is +353, and the city code for Dublin is 1.

(The plus sign means "insert your international access prefix here." From a GSM mobile phone, you can enter the number in full international format, starting with the plus sign. The most common prefix is 00, but North America (USA, Canada, etc.) uses 011, Japan uses 010, Australia uses 0011, and many other countries use different prefixes.)

The Republic of Ireland is country code +353.

See the link for area codes in Ireland. To put the number in international format, drop the trunk prefix 0 from the beginning of the Irish area code. For example, Dublin's area code 01 becomes +353 1.

Ireland is country code +353. Within Ireland, Dublin numbers start with the 01 area code, although the first zero of domestic area codes is left out when dialling internationally.

To start an international call from the UK, you must dial "00" first.

The typical dialling pattern would be 00 353 1 xxx xxxx. For example, to dial the Dublin number (01) 123 4567 from the UK you would enter: 00 353 1 123 4567.

To explain how that works:

00 - to make an international call

353 - country code for Ireland

1 - area code for Dublin (ignoring the first zero)

123 4567 - the local number in Dublin

To call the Republic of Ireland from the UK, you must use the full international format. Replace the leading 0 of the Irish number with country code +353.

Many years ago, there were special shortcut codes for dialing from the UK to some parts of Ireland, but they were discontinued as international direct dialling became widely available.
