I would say buckyballs. The cubes seem like there are less shapes possible, also, they're a lot harder to work with because the polarity is different. The cubes are also less flexible where as the balls are more flimsy and can be molded easier. hope this helps!
The "Boom Cubes" seem to have to do with the cubic patter design on the fur of the Furby toy. That seems to be the only difference on the toy in this case.
