The White Sox, in 1960, became the first team to put names on their jerseys. As Baseball popularity grew, other teams began to do the same. At this point all teams except the Yankees, wear jerseys with their names on them.
The year each team joined the NFL:
Most do. Only a few teams (USC, Notre Dame, Colorado, and Army, to name a few) lack names on their jerseys. Penn State was one of the schools known for not having names on their jerseys until 2012, when they finally decided to add them.
When the National Football League and the American Football League merged in 1970, all players began wearing their names on their uniform jerseys. Before the merger, only the AFL teams wore jerseys with names.
Player names were added to the back on Michigan jerseys in 1980.
The New York Jets colors are different twice a year because they wear throwback jerseys. This is common for most NFL football teams.

The home team status alternates between American Football Conference and National Football Conference teams each year. In Super Bowl XLVI, the New England Patriots of the AFC were the home team and elected to wear their blue jerseys. As a result, the New York Giants of the NFC were required to wear white jerseys as the visiting team. But if the Dallas Cowboys were the Super Bowl home team, they would choose to wear white jerseys because their custom is to wear that color for most home games. The Cowboys also wear white jerseys for road games whenever the host team does not wear white.
Packers are wearing their green jerseys. the NFC team is the home team this year. The steelers are wearing their white jerseys
because they where honoring the graduates of the year 62 by wearing their old uniforms. i think it was 62? if not a year in the 60's but they where wearing their uniforms so they didn't have names cuz it wasn't their actual jerseys.
The Green Bay Packers of the National Football Conference will be the home team in Super Bowl XLV, so they most likely will wear their green jerseys. As a result, the Pittsburgh Steelers of the American Football Conference will wear white jerseys. The home team status alternates between NFC and AFC teams each year. In Super Bowl XLIV, the Indianapolis Colts of the AFC were the home team and the New Orleans Saints of the NFC were the visiting team.

"C" stands for Captain.....however, not all teams captains are wearing C's on their jerseys......this is new and some of the teams aren't up to speed and some teams choose not to use this system because they have different captains throughout the year. Tammy D.
