Route 66 is famous in American history because it was America's first highway linking Chicago, IL to Los Angeles, CA. During the Great Depression years of 1933-1938, the development of route 66 provided construction and road maintenance jobs for young males. After its development, it provided even more jobs such as in food and lodging, maintenance, gas station attendants. Route 66 was symbolized as "the road of opportunity" because it allowed for Americans escape from the job scarce east to seek more job opportunities in California.

In essence, route 66 provided more jobs and a smooth travel from the Midwest to west.
