Socialization? Socialization is an individual's effort to adjust to the needs of the immediate family, to a social circle of friends and to the wider community he/she resides in. In other words, an infant, who in the early stages of his/her life is a totally selfish creature, learns by interacting with family and later with the community, that he/she can not always get his/her way. Failure to adjust to those around us often produces anti-social behavior and can result in incarceration. Good social interaction is at the core of a well-functioning society.

Examples of socialization include learning language and communication skills, acquiring norms and values of a culture, and developing relationships with others. These processes help individuals become functioning members of society and understand societal expectations.
