[Oct 11] LOS ANGELES, CA, US--Hungarian escape artist David Merlini has broken the world record for the longest time underwater without air: 10 minutes and 17 seconds without a breath while chained and handcuffed under water in a glass tank.

August 2002: Master Illusionist Criss Angel stayed 24 hours submerged underwater on camera chained inside a glass tank.

The current world record for the longest time spent underwater is held by Stéphane Mifsud, who held his breath for 11 minutes and 35 seconds in 2009. It is extremely dangerous to attempt to hold your breath for long periods underwater without proper training and supervision.
