Why is psychology controversial among Christians today?

Modern Psychology is controversial with Christianity as it erases and attempts to fill the root of our problems and behaviors to be originated from anything but sin. Much of modern psychology eliminates the idea of a soul, and rules guilt as an evolutionary adaptation to prevent us from harming our fellow humans as a way to prolong human life on earth. God created us, gave us souls, and a conscience that helps us determine right from wrong, and to assist us from making the same mistake over and over. Guilt is a way of making us realize our convictions and how much we need redemption, not simply to help prolong human life but to draw us closer to Jesus, who died for such imperfections. Now modern psychology has split up itself into many different sects that each usually have very different views from each other and Christianity. Humanistic psychology Believes we are all good people deep down in our "natural state", and that our imbalances are caused by unnatural sources. It ends with self actualization which Christ said is impossible, and that in no way can we achieve our "perfection". Freud is probably one of the more controversial ones. Freud said that God is a fictional character made up by our desires for a better father. That one is fairly obvious of how it's controversial. True psychology itself isn't controversial against Christianity it's the modern beliefs that are currently accepted that are controversial. The Bible actually has a lot of psychological material. Just read Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Gospels and you'll find a vast quantity of explanations for human behavior. The Bible is the most amazing book ever. It is so far ahead of its time because The Author transcends time. Hope this helped.

Are intelligence tests culturally biased?

Yes. Intelligence tests are culturally and linguistically biased. They favor middle to upper middle class English-speaking Americans. Even nonverbal IQ tests have "cultural loading," references to Western culture. For example, if you gave the WISC-IV, a common "IQ test" used with American children to a child in Cameroon who does not speak English, he will not fair well. Or, if you gave this same measure to a fourteen year old English-speaking student who has not been educated, they would not do as well as their educated peers.
