Politicians and the media work closely in an effort to benefit one another and control the messages that are distributed to the masses. Politicians go on tv shows to boost ratings when needed and in return the media helps the politicians they like to get re-elected by presenting a disproportional degree of beneficial coverage on that candidate and their initiatives. CNN is primarily responsible for spreading messages for liberal politicians, while Fox is primarily responsible for right-wing messages. This balance is carefully maintained in an effort to control public opinion. Even though the stations pretend to attack one another's motives, they are actually working for the same group of power brokers in the beltway.

Politicians benefit from media coverage as a platform to communicate their message, gain visibility, and shape public opinion. On the other hand, the media benefits from politicians as a source of news content, access to exclusive information, and increased viewership/readership from covering political events and scandals. This symbiotic relationship helps both parties achieve their respective goals and functions in a democratic system.

What is the Nigerian political economic system?

I believe it is better to say 'politico-economic system', as a single wording or separately as 'political and economic systems'. They both mean thesame thing, and infer that there is a strong interchange between the political system (with institutions & Politicians as actors) and the economic system (with corporations & businessmen as actors). In this situation, those who have political powers control the economic system, and those who have economic power influences or control the political system.
