To teach children that aesthetics are the most important facet of a person. That only what other people see (ie the judges) matters. You can be as rotten a human being off camera, but when the cameras turn them, the fully exhibit a phony geniality.
Essentially, teaches kids fake their way into winning. By any means. Good times.
