He's the shortest man in the world in a freak show. He has a wooden peg leg, which the second shortest man was cutting a bit off of each night. Since peg legs normally don't shrink, the man thought he was growing taller with his other leg and killed himself.

Not sure what you mean by "in the engine" - not sure Ive seen it in the oil before but I have seen it in transmission fluid. When it is in the transmission fluid its because the transmission is going bad and probably knocks really hard when shifting. Adding some sawdust quiets the shifting. This is frequently done by less than honest people to hide a transmission problem when they sell the car. I suppose if sawdust is in the crankcase oil then it could be done to try to silence major broken or warn parts (mains, rod, etc). Either way, it is not good, and is usually done to hide noisy broken or warn internal parts.
