it is important that one must undergo the fundamental or basic positions of both arms and feet in dancing in order to provide better performance in all dancing activities. one has to memorize the steps, the hand and body movements, and follow the rhythm of the music.
First position, which includes heels together and toes apart. Second position which includes separates heels and turned out feet. Third position is less common but is when one heel is put half way through the other foot. Fourth position is an extended third. And fifth position is when one foot completely crosses in front of the other.

In what style? Ballet. First position, with both legs straight and the feet out to the side, like you would imagine a penguin. Second position, same with the feet about 1 and 1/2 feet apart, forth position, with the feet pointed out with one foot in front of the other and fifth position, where both feet are pointing outone foot in front of the other, touching.

Difficult to describe look at some pictures.

1st position. 2nd position. 3rd position. 4th position. And 5th position. 1st is when the heels are touching and the feet are turned out in a number 1. 2nd is the same with about a foot between heels. 3rd is a 5th with the feet not crossing as much. 4th is a 5th with a hips length of space in between. 5th are your two feet crossed entirely.

There are 5 basic foot positions in ballroom dancing, feet together, feet apart, heel to instep, one foot in front of the other, and toe to heel. Ballroom arm positions include the womanâ??s left arm on the top of the manâ??s right arm, hand touching shoulder, and both partners extending the other arm and holding hands.
