Will the new vaquero hammer fit the old vaquero?

yes, the new model vaquero hammer will fit the old model vaquero. i have several and when the new model came out, the first thing i did was buy a handful of the new model hammers and installed them on my "old model" guns (I.E. original vaquero)

if your gun is blued, leave it alone once installed. if t is stainless, you can take a dremel tool with a light emery bit and contour the rear edges of the rear sight notch to "blend" in if you wish with the new hammers profile. stay AWAY from the sight notch. then take a rubber polishing bit and polish the rough edges and lines from the blending down, then a cottn polishing wheel and some compound and polish it t match the gun. youll love it.
