How small is small?

You will need a larger caliber. Something like .25 cal. Also suggest you get a rifle not an gun. Select a hunting pellet (hollow point) with a much heaver grain. Hogs have thick skulls.

Will your 800 fps air rifle kill a small wild hog with a 177 7 grain hollow point pellet?

I doubt it.

Would a pellet gun kill a toad?

Yes or any small rodent.

To kill a large squirrel would it be a better choice to shoot a 10.5 grain lead pellet or a 5 grain alloy pellet for a headshot?

Personally I would use the heaver pellet, it doesn't have to be 10.5. Heaver pellets fly straighter. Light weight pellets are influenced by crosswind. This is why you don't find competition shooters using light pellets.

Would a airgun kill a person?

Normally (NO) but it is possible if the circumstances are right. Most airguns, not Air Soft Guns, fall into the ,177 pellet or BB range. However pellet airguns do go up into the 9MM, 45 Cal and 50 Caliber barrels and pellets that are capable of killing someone.

Can a 1300 fps airgun kill a deer?

If you are talking about a .177 caliber pellet. Most likely the answer is NO. But if you are talking about a 45 caliber or 50 caliber pellet then the answer is Yes. Pellet guns come in .177, .20, .22, .25, 9MM, 45 cal and 50 Caliber. The last 3 sizes are fired by PCP air rifles (Recharged pneumatic ) that require a scuba tank to charge them to 3000 PSI. They are still pellet rifles just the BIG BOY of pellet rifles.

Will a pellet gun kill a you. The last answer said a pellet gun that shoots lead will kill you. I must be mistaken I assumed a pellet gun that shot lead was known as a gun and the pellet a bullet.?

If the projectile is fired without the use of an explosive charge, i.e using air, then the weapon would be considered a pellet gun and the projectile a pellet. A pellet gun has can kill you dependent on several factors. The first factor would be where your shot. If your shot in the head or near a vital organ it could kill you. The second factor would be range. Pellet guns generally have short ranges or effectiveness, So if you were shot at less then 4 feet away with a pellet gun it has a possibility to kill you. The third factor is ammunition type. The gun could shoot a pellet or a bb or an airsoft bb. A traditional bb is a small bore round ball which is shot at low velocities, they can be made from plastic or metal and might have a coating, thesegenerally wont kill anything with ease except at close ranges and in very vital areas(still rare it will kill you though). An airsoft bb is a type of bb that is very light weight and can be found easily in calibers .177 - 6mm. They are meant to be shot at people. The use is similar to paintball just with small objects and armour is used. A pellet is lead, plastic or PBA performance ballistic alloy, this is just a name that Gamo calls that type of pellet) projectile. Pellets range from .177 caliber to 20mm (.50 caliber of the highest that most places will ever sell.). The shape of the head changes the aerodynamic properties of the pellet which can change its purpose. Pellets that are made of lead are the most lethal could possibly kill someone. PBA and plastic ammo doesn't have much accuracy to be use full to kill anything. The heavier a pellet is the more muzzle energy the gun will have. The fourth factor is muzzle energy. Muzzle energy is expressed in 2 measurements. Foot pounds and joules. To give you an idea as to what muzzle energy some things have or what muzzle energy a gun needs to kill something I'll list out some numbers: 1 foot-pound will pierce skin. To kill a small bird: 3-4 foot pounds To kill a squirrel 6-8 foot pounds A .22 long rim fire rifle has about 71 foot pounds of energy. A non PAL/FAC airgun (one that can be picked up without a licence in Canada has around 3-5 foot pounds of energy. A .177 caliber airgun with 1000 fps velocity: 15-21 foot pounds (depends on ammo) A .177 caliber airgun with 1250 fps velocity: 20-30 foot pounds (depends on ammo) A .50 caliber airgun with around 570 fps: 180 foot pounds A .50 caliber Machine gun / Sniper: 11, 000 - 14,000 foot pounds So its all highly dependant on the airgun and ammunition, With your run of the mill 495 fps gun and being shot by accident probably would kill them but could injure them badly. With a high powered air rifle being shot in the head would most likely kill you. With a high powered air rifle at long range, not likely to kill you but it still has the ability to. A Message to readers: Even though pellet guns can be lethal they are still great for teaching younger shooter what they need to know, Better you mess up with something weak then with something truly destructive.

Can a C 31 Airgun kill a person?

The Crosman C31 is a CO2 powered BB gun. In general, a BB gun does not have enough energy to kill a person. However, as a matter of general principle, it is not a good idea to shoot AT anyone with a BB gun, pellet gun, or a bazooka.

Can a pellet rifle kill a zombie?

no pellet guns can not because they are not powerful to penetrait skin and zombies tougher to kill then humans and you can not kill a human with a pellet gun *** New Answer *** The above answer is incorrect. Most pellet guns can penetrate the skin, they may not kill you but it will hurt. If you have a .257 or larger PCP Airgun that produces a higher fpe then yes you could kill a Zombie. People need to stop looking at Airguns as toys, they are not toys and the higher caliber airguns can kill. So Please practice Safety!!! Oh yeah, you need to shoot the Zombie in the head so I would use a 35cal PCP with a 3500psi tank with the valve set to 950psi burst, or a MAC35 with the cartridge set to 4500psi. :-)

In a 1000fps pellet gun that I will be using to kill rats the size of cats what weight and kind of pellet should I use?

I assume you are using a rifle not a gun. Almost any of the hunting ( Hollow Point ) pellets will do the job. Beeman makes a good 7.2 grain hollow point. I like hollow point because they mushroom when they hit the target. Small hole going in, large hole coming out. Predator also make a very good hunting pellet, it's 8 grain and bone crushing. See the link below.

Could you kill a small bird or squirrel with a 22 caliber pellet at just under 500 fps with a pellet rifle?

It could do it, although it wouldn't be the most "graceful" means of accomplishing it.

Can a pellet gun kill a dove?

Yes. Pellet guns and rifles can be used for small game and rodents. I suggest using hunting pellets they mushroom on impact and make a clean kill, unlike BB's that don't deform on impact and may not kill the rodent or bird. The pellets will be called "Hunting or Hollowpoint."

Can a 800 fps air rifle kill a small hog?

It depends on the size of the hog, The size of the caliber, the weight of the pellet and if you can get in a good head shot. Assuming you are using a .177 caliber rifle. (your stretching the limits of the rifle) I would select a H&N Baracuda Match .177 Cal 10.65 grain pellet. Don't get hug up on speed. A heavy pellet will fly slower than a lightweight pellet but will fly straighter and have more knock down power than a lightweight pellet. Hopefully your going after really small hogs, because I think you are stretching the limits of you rifle if it's a .177 caliber air rifle. I recommend a larger caliber, but it's up to you.
