Some would say there wasn't a 'need' as such, it was the leaders that organised the shipping of slaves that influenced the idea that the people of North America needed someone to do the dirty work, because black people in that time were seen as less then the white, they believed that they 'needed' someone to do the cleaning cooking ect. more and more people became influenced and greedy so demand (need) for slaves grew :) hope this helped :)
