Why might it be better to be talked about than not to be talked about?

Well, you could go for the obvious answer: people talking about you, whether what they are saying is positive or negative is proof that you have in some way made an impact on them. On the contrary, if you are not talked about by those same people, then the possibility exists that you have made no impact on them whatsoever. People discussing you (or not) could be used as a marker of your fame... or your infamy. There is also another option to consider, though - if you are not being talked about because the impact you have had on those same people is so great that it transcends words, then maybe it would be better not to be talked about.
