During pregnancy a woman's body goes through a tremendous change, and some hormone levels (necessarily) go through the roof. These hormones, although essential for maintaing the function of the placenta and the proper development of the baby, can have sweeping effects amongs many women, causing such things as mood swings, general 'touchiness', etc. You have to be aware of this, and empathise with what your wife and her body (not to mention the baby's) is going through. Once you come to understand these changes it SHOULD help you change YOUR behaviour, and hopefully things will be that little bit easier--it's almost never plain sailing!
