A lake have a much larger surface area and there for get direct sun for most of the day. Most private pools have a much small surface area and are built close to the house, trees and Fencing which block direct sun rays through out the day.

Lake water temperature can vary depending on time of year, area, and any currents. Swimming pool water can be regulated using heaters, or, less efficiently, during the summer by keeping the pool water in direct sunlight.
