In terms of how slavery is conceptualized in the American context, slavery is not important today. But there are many forms of slavery, that do not consist of racial, ethnic or religious aspects. Slavery today is important in maintaining the equilibrium of modern life. Meaning we are all slaves to a system of globalization, if we choose to live in the modern world. Those who do not are vagrants or self sustaining individuals that do not live under the system. If you have a birth certificate, a social security card, a bank account, a cell phone or any other form of partnership, membership or documentation, then you are a slave to the system. In this context, slavery is important in allowing the modern world to function through a series laws, mandates and protocols, effecting your life personally, professionally and socially
