The body uses calories for energy. Naturally, the body requires many calories just to perform every day functions and to survive. If you take in too little, you won't have anything to burn for energy. Taking in too few calories (which, for the average person, is less than 1,200 calories a day or so) can lead to deprevation, modd swings, hormone fluctuations, starvation, and other health complications.
