That's silly. Does "hip and trendy" never includes being something that can get the snot beaten out of you - or even killed. It doesn't include being a second class citizen - that is, one who is denied the same rights as other citizens have. It's not hip and trendy. It's simply becoming something that is seen more and more as just a normal state of being.

ANSWER

I am assuming that this question was posted by a heterosexual person. I will address this as tactfully as possible. Questions like these are asked out of ignorance and judgment. Questions and statements like this one come from the mouths of people who have not bothered to find out any information or research the topic. Most have not even actually spoken with homosexuals in an attempt to find out the truth. A study was/is being conducted by the Oregon State University regarding homosexual sheep. 10% of sheep have been found to prefer mating with other sheep instead of mating with ewes. They have found evidence in the brains of these sheep to prove that there is a physical/medical reason for these tendencies. Studies regarding humans have found that hormones during development sometimes get 'mixed up' causing female tendencies in a male body and visa versa. Even without going the scientific route, if you would just have conversations with homosexuals, you will find that the majority of them attempted to fight or hide their homosexuality for a good part of their lives. I am not saying that there aren't some people that 'choose' to live the homosexual lifestyle because there are but it doesn't change the fact that homosexuality itself is not a choice.

The only thing that is being SHOVED down American's throats is that homosexuals should not be treated with the same rights or respect as other humans. This world has made a LOT of mistakes by acting out of ignorance and alienating particular groups. This situation is no different and no matter what you do to fight it, you can't stop natural occurrences. It is common to be afraid of the unknown so make it a point to know and then you won't have to be afraid. It is just as much hereditary to be homosexual as it is to be black or white, male or female. Homosexuals should have just as much right to be who they are as you have to be who you are.

Both answers have good point to them, except perhaps for the graphic, yet funny representation in the first. If the originator of the question would do a little soul searching first and look at his query from a larger perspective, he or she would realize that their question is not so much seeking for an answer to a non-rhetorical question, but the value he or she has assigned to the subject matter.

By calling homosexuality a perversion, seems to this reader to be an attempt by a short-sighted and ignorant individual to negatively label the values or lifestyles that others in their own society enjoy. Since these are considered "values", then the questioner needs to realize that values are subjective and should also consider that their "values" may seem perverse to others as well.

Subjective values should be kept within the context of the individual assigning them. To export values in a way that is condescending to others who may not share said values not only insults and in some ways hurts others, but also shows the ignorance and low self-esteem of the person making the comment.

Homosexuality is against God and I think that since God created us we should do things the way He wants us to. I am not meaning to offend ANYONE by any means or purposes, I am making a religious statement as a faithful Catholic.

Comment on this last: There are lots of faithful Catholics who are homosexuals. I've never heard "God" say anything about homosexuality, but there are a few passages in the Hebrew Bible that get thrown around a lot. Personally, I favor 'Judge not, lest ye be judged' from the Christian Bible.

Answer

I find it sad that when anyone speaks up about the undeniable fact that the media champions, overexposes, and glorifies gays that they are immediately labeled a bigot and ignorant.

The two prior responses to this answer are canned, social blackmail responses. Homosexuality IS considered hip and trendy and anyone who watches a few hours of TV can see that. It's due to the constant media promotion. If homosexuals wish to be equal, they need to request that the media stop drawing so much attention to them (and alienating straight people), because it only makes them stand out more from the norm.

Eventually, the media will get bored and move on to something else. But in the mean time, I have grown sick of not being able to watch two or three hours of television without having gays very obviously force fed down my throat.

I honestly don't care whom people choose to have sex with, but having someone - anyone's - gay, straight or bi - sexual life shoved in my face non-stop by the media is annoying. And if you say so, the outright ignorance of the new brainwashed world full of neo-liberals will call you a Nazi for saying so. THAT is bigotry. THAT is ignorance. THAT is social blackmail and you're just as bad as people who hate gays.

This questions isn't bigoted or ignorant. The person who asked it might be! But the questions isn't. Homosexuality is generally portrayed as hip and trendy. Why? Ratings! Money! It's a hot topic and it gets people tuning in.

This is America, and I find it sad that there are so many closed minded and hateful people in it that attack people who DON'T think homosexuality is the most beautiful and natural thing ever with just as much ignorance and hatred.

Also, even gay rights activists have admitted there is no "gay gene", only sequences that increase the likelyhood, combined with gestational hormones. It is a choice (in spite of the fact that no single study supports the idea that it is a choice). It's just like anorexia. Saying it is determined from birth releases people from responsibility and implies that straight people don't consciously choose to be straight, which they do.
