Because there exists a myth about the AK series rifles that they'll never jam. While they do have loose tolerances which gives them a fair degree of protection from jamming, any firearm is subject to jamming, and the Kalashnikov rifles actually have a bit of an Achille's heel in the gap which exposes the internals when the fire selector lever is off of the safe position. It is also extremely easy to use and take care of. It is accurate out to around 100yds by a good marksman. After thAt the bullet drops so significantly that it's accuracy is greatly degraded. It is also cheaply made and the 7.62x39mm that it uses is a very hard hitting round.
