One of the first things alcohol does is remove our inhibitions and good judgment. Thus, we are likely to say and do things when drinking that we would not do if we were in our right minds. However, the impulsive things we say are just as likely to be spur of the moment, or based on drunken mis-perceptions, as something that we have been repressing. So we guess the answer is not necessarily.

Sober means "not drinking beer/alcohol". I don't think that the word sober would "offend" anyone to the point that it would be considered "inappropriate".

I think for some it is the boredom associated with a clean and sober life. When you are high or drunk your mind does not think about boredom so much as when you are sober. It is also hard to kick the feelings that you feel when you are in the altered state of mind.
A good poet is someone who speaks from their heart and whatever is on there mind. Good poets can take the most simple thing and turn it into a complex, deep poem.
