It's common, especially among people who have a poor self image. They say things like that so that they can feel good about themselves, the problem is, it just doesn't work. People who generally make disparaging remarks about others, usually have a low self-esteem and their only means of release from this image of themselves is to lower the self-esteem of others by opressing them with negative comments, thus up-lifting themsleves. Luckily, if you are the confident one out there, it just won't work.

Why do teens make mean remarks to others?

They want to see them selves as better then everyone else. So they try to make you look bad by saying bad things. Making fun of you and your friends or things you like. Children today don't have the respect for things that they should have. People need to respect each other equally. If this doesn't happen people will make mean remarks. This is my opinion.

Why does this site make offensive remarks about a question?

It is not the site itself making the offensive remarks. It is immature people such as vandals and trolls. They want attention, want to get a reaction out of others, or they want to leave a mark of some sort. Just flag the questions when you see them. Or you can contact a supervisor, or take it to the vandalism page.

What punishment do you think that those should receive for making racial remarks towards someone?

It depends on the situation. Broadcasters have lost their jobs because of racial remarks and politicians have lost elections. People whose racial remarks interfere with their job performance should probably given a warning and then fired, or fired outright if the remarks are too egregious. People who make racial remarks in social situations should be cut from the group if their remarks are offensive to the group.
