There are various reasons why people are homeless. Some have a mental illness and have not been served by the community for the problems they have. Others have problems like drugs or drinking and are unable to keep a job to afford to live better. Today, because of the economy there are now middle class families that are homeless. Over 200,000 children from the ages of 12-19 are also on the streets for one reason or another. Often these children will spend a percentage of their life in the situation they find themselves because they are not getting the schooling, mental health help or physical help that they need to get off the streets in the future. Our society is developing a social/economic class of permanent street dwellers.
