They don't.
Some "rent" their bodies, but they don't usually actually "sell" their bodies. There is a real difference.
They do it For money. (The answer is in the question.)
However...
It could be argued that in some (but certainly not all) forms of marriage, girls /women do in effect "sell" their bodies. In that type of marriage the father of the bride is present, by tradition, to "give away" his daughter to the groom. The bride, in return for sexual submission and housekeeping, expects continued payments of money for personal use (and room and board and other financial considerations).
The bride's family is customarily complicit in this transaction by paying for the wedding. In some cultures the bride's family also gives a dowry -- a payment in cash or some kind of gifts given to a bridegroom (and his family) along with the bride, intended to defray the cost of keeping her.
In many countries this "selling" of a girl's /woman's body (and her other services) is a centuries-old custom.
This custom is also mentioned in the Old Testament of The Bible, as being accepted, expected and taken for granted. Brides were exchanged for labor, purchased, or obtained through other methods in the same ways that cattle and other possessions were acquired.
The bride frequently had very little (or no) say in the marriage or in the choice of groom; modern prostitutes perhaps entering into a transaction a bit more voluntarily, although that's open to debate (but not here).
Those kinds of marriage do indeed involve "selling" a girl's /woman's body.
In general, many forms of modern prostitution involve "renting" rather than "selling".
I make no value judgements as to which may be "better" -- the permanent selling of a girl's body through the above mentioned marriage transactions, or the usually temporary renting of the body of a modern prostitute. Make up your own mind about that matter, if you think it makes a significant difference.
My statements and examples here are specifically noted to be "in general" in order to avoid including negative situations such as human trafficking, as well as (more importantly) the very positive and progressive effects of women's liberation and gender equality that are advancing our society, culture and modern civilization.
(The brevity of my comments here obviously necessitates some degree of simplification and generalization -- hopefully while avoiding being /seeming critical or insulting in any way.)

There are several reasons why individuals, including girls, may engage in sex work, such as financial necessity, lack of alternatives, coercion, exploitation, and marginalization. It is important to address the root causes of why people turn to sex work, including poverty, limited social support, and systemic inequalities.
