Thousands of them were transported because they had committed a crime which was not serious enough for them to be beheaded for so instead they were sent to other countries like America and Australia. Many of the people died on the boat due to poor conditions so many people stayed in America and Australia because they didn't want to risk their lives on the ride back to England. They also didn't return back because their lives would probably return to poverty and crime.
