The Ghost sought to remind Scrooge that the Christmas season can be devastating for a child forced to be alone. Scrooge, of all people, should have been aware of this fact; but his life of greed had erased this fact from his thoughts.
This is why the Ghost, after showing Scrooge the latter's boarding school, and hearing Scrooge state, "I could walk it blindfold!", pointed out, "Strange to have forgotten it for so many years."
The ghost of Christmas past shows Scrooge his past childhood holiday to remind him of the joy and innocence he once had, and to help him reconnect with those positive emotions in order to change his attitude towards Christmas and life in general. It is meant to inspire reflection and encourage Scrooge to rediscover the true spirit of the holiday season.
It was the Cratchit child named "Peter" who was reading a book when Scrooge and the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come entered Bob Cratchit's house.

The ghost of Christmas past showed Scrooge as a child and man what he had missed in his past . The ghost of the Christmas present shows him what he was missing while others were celebrating Christmas he was lonely & miserable. The ghost of the Christmas yet to come shows him a dead body with no one to claim the body. When he sees his own tombstone he promises to celebrate Christmas in future.
The Ghost of Christmas Past visits Scrooge and takes him into his past to see various Christmas seasons. The first is when he was a child and was left alone at school over the holidays, until his sister fetched him home. The second was the Christmas party hosted by his then-boss, old Fezziwig. At this party, his sweetheart Belle returns his ring, saying he has chosen another love (money). The third scene is of Belle and her husband and children celebrating a happy Christmas. Scrooge begins to regret the years he spent accumulating money when he could have had a happy life with a family and his misogynistic habits and attitudes.
When Scrooge touched the robe of the ghost, he felt a chill run through him and it caused the ghost's form to dwindle down to the size of a child. This hinted at the spirit's fragile nature and the impact of Scrooge's actions on the ghost's existence.
"I see a vacant seat," replied the Ghost," in the poor chimney-corner, and a crutch without an owner, carefully preserved. If these shadows remain unaltered by the Future, the child will die."
There were only three ghosts (the ghosts of past, present, and future). And they showed Scrooge how mean he was being and how less fortunate others were than him during the holidays. The ghosts taught Scrooge to be nicer and to care about others more.Actually there were four ghosts. Most people forget that Marley was a ghost, and he taught Scrooge the same lesson as the other three that was explained wonderfully above. Marley, Scrooges deceased business partner, showed Scrooge his chains, each link representing a cruel deed done while he was alive. This was Scrooge's future, weighed down by chains forever, if he didn't change his ways.
During the visit from the ghost of Christmas past, we learn that Scrooge was neglected by his family during his childhood, leading him to seek solace in books. We also see that he was a lonely and neglected child who longed for love and affection.
In the original book Scrooge goes to the local tavern on his way home for a small libation and a morsel of supper, he spent the night looking through his bankers book. Only at closing time did he make his way back to his home. There is no suggestion that he was under the influence of alcohol at all only that it was late. Therefore its is believed that the "visions" he experienced were in fact real
There were two children specific to the Ghost of Christmas Present. One a boy call Ignorance and the other a girl called Want. The Ghost however, does make reference to Tim Cratchet. As he takes Scrooge to the Cratchet house he highlights the little crutch standing on its own next to the fire and no sign of the child who of course will die if Scrooge does not make some life changes.
As a child Scrooge was abandoned in a bording school even at Christmas. He remembers the death of his own dear sister Fan and sees a glimmer of himself in Tiny Tim. When he is told by the Ghost of Christmas Presenty that he (the ghost) sees an empty chair by the fire and an unused crutch hanging on the wall Scrooge feels sorrow at the memories of loss he has experienced and ones which drove him to harden his heart.
