So many have this need to know what others are doing as a way to control them. They have this addiction to having power over others. Others are just lonely and want something to gossip about or want to start trouble to feel better about themselves. A lot of these underlying reasons can be overcome by therapy. Plus it could be an issue of upbringing. If more parents saw this as an undesirable character trait, they could discipline it out of their children.

Another possible answer:

We are wired to be nosy; some people are more talented and persistent at it than others. There is no way that this will change. You'll feel less burdened by it when you realize that you can't change it. Just roll with it, and you'll see that things will work out fine.
