The Cratchit children are excited by Christmas for the following reasons:

1. Family belonging -Usually they never get to see their father during the day. It can be inferred that Scrooge works him 'to the grindstone.' It is also a time where typically they would go to chruch and have the day with their father and whole family including Tiny Tim (the reader/audience would have high levels of emapthy for considering disbaility which considering context infers death.)

2. The Feast- no matter how meagre their food source they would get to eat. Due to the Dickensian time period their they could go days without.

3. Gifts...it is Christmas after all.

Essentially the children represnt a typical hard done by but happy and understanding of their 'station' (class structure) in life.
