Carbohydrates are the body's main source of energy. They are broken down to glucose, or sugar and provide energy for the body. If the glucose is not used, it is stored as fat.

Carbohydrates are not bad for you, in fact, they are essential. The key thing is to remain active so that you use up the glucose that your body makes from carbs. Another key thing is to eat complex carbs, such as whole grains , instead of sugary things and white breads. Complex carbs take longer to break down into sugar and they also contain fiber, so sugar gets released into your bloodstream little by little. This way the energy lasts you longer. With simple carbs, sugar gets released into your bloodstream all at once and causes a "high" and then a "crash". Then what happens? You need more energy and need to eat again.

So, eat whole grains and fruits and get plenty of exercise, and carbs will not be fattening!
