Spartacus was a slave in the Roman Empire who began a rebellion in 73 BC. He disagreed with the unfair treating of slaves in the Roman world and fought for better rights. As Spartacus did so to protect the slave's rights in Ancient Rome, this is an important lesson that could be applied today.

Spartacus (Greek: Σπάρτακος, Spártakos; Latin: Spartacus[1]) (c. 109 BC - 71 BC) was the most notable leader of the slaves in the Third Servile War, a major slave uprising against the Roman Republic.
The famous slave revolt of 73 BC (or, BCE) was primarily led by Spartacus. Generally considered to be of Thracian origin, Spartacus was one of several leaders of the uprising that took place in central Italy and enjoyed remarkable growth and military success as various Roman armies attempted unsuccessfully to crush it. In 71 BC (or, BCE), however, the revolt came to its end at the hands of more capable Roman forces, with Spartacus apparently killed, although his body was never found.
Spartacus did not have much of an impact on the Roman empire. His figure was mythologised many centuries after the end of Roman civilisation by romantic intellectuals. We get minimal information about him from ancient Roman historians. He was one of the leaders (not the only leader) of the slave rebellion which has been called the Third Servile War (73-71 BC). The revolt scared the Romans, especially the senate. The slaves were successful for a couple of years against small forces of the Roman army and local militias and ravaged the countryside and pillaged a number of cities. However, it was finally suppressed by the deployment of a large amount of Roman troops. This was the biggest, but also the last slave rebellion in Roman history. Over time it got forgotten by the Romans.
He was a slave. He became a gladiator. He led a massive slaves' rebellion (the Third Servile War) against Rome from 73-71 BC. The slaves seriously threatened the Empire, and crushed several legions sent against them. Eventually legions were recalled from other wars to defeat them, and Spartacus was believed killed.
The name Spartacus is of Latin origin and is believed to mean "from the city of Sparta" or "pertaining to Sparta." It is also associated with the famous Thracian gladiator who led a major slave uprising against the Roman Republic in 73-71 BC.

Spartacus was a slave who was a gladiator. He was among gladiators who escaped from their gladiatorial schools and sparked a slave rebellion. Up to 20,000 slaves gathered into bands which ravaged the countryside, looted some cities, and defeated Roman army contingents and local militias for two years. Spartacus was one of the leaders of these bands. The rebellion was eventually suppressed with the deployment of eight legions (army corps). This was the third slave rebellion in Roman history and historians call it the Third Servile War (73-71 BC). Both Spartacus and the slave rebellion have been mythologized in fiction. The rebelling slaves are portrayed as freedom fighters fighting against the establishment and to end slavery. However, no account by ancient historians says that the aim of the rebellion was to fight the system or end slavery. They were probably marauding escapees. An ancient historian speculated that they wanted to flee to Gaul. The rebels and their leaders committed many atrocities. As for Spartacus being the champion of liberty who led all of the rebels as portrayed in fiction, this was not the case. He was one of the various leaders of the various bands and we have absolutely minimal information about him.
nananananan msmEWJUH There were actually three major slave revolts against Rome, but the only leader's name that has come down to us is Spartacus. He was the leader of the last slave revolt.
Nobody declared war to free the slaves of Rome. There were three slave rebellions which historians have called the Servile Wars. The first one (135 B.C. -- 132 B.C.) was in Sicily and was led by Eunus, a former slave who claimed he was a prophet, and Cleon, a slave from Cilicia. The second one (104 B.C. -- 100 B.C.) was also in Sicily was led by Salvius, a slave who called himself Tryphon. In the third one (73--71 B.C.) a band of some 200 gladiators from the biggest gladiatorial school (in Capua, near Naples) escaped. Over the course of the rebellion they were joined by some 120,000 slaves. The leaders were Crixus and Oenomaus and Spartacus.
