What former slave became famous for secretly returning to the south dozen of times in order to help slaves escape northward via the Underground Railroad?
Answers;; Harriet Tubman
I believe you mean what was the underground railroad used for. And the answer to that is, during slavery, it set people free because no slave owners knew about it and that is how slaves would escape from slavery/slave owners.

The Fugitive Slave Act was passed in 1850 as part of the Compromise of 1850. It required that escaped slaves be returned to their owners, even if they were in free states. This law was highly controversial and fueled tensions between abolitionists and supporters of slavery.
no it wasn't i was just a secret code. No, the Underground Railroad was neither underground nor a railroad. It was called "underground" because slave owners could never find out how or when slaves escaped. The slave owners claimed it must be underground since they could never see the slaves run off; however, the Underground Railroad was just extremely sneaky and never was underground.
The Underground Railroad is a series of above ground escape routes to help slaves escape to freedom. A slave would go to one house called a station and hide in a celler, attic etc. for the day. Then during the night slaves would ride by carriage, wagon, train or boat until they got to the next station. They did this until they reached freedom.
