Profile Prior to joining Dixon Hughes, Vernon spent time working in both the public and private accounting sectors. He began his career working as a tax specialist for a Big 4 firm before leaving public accounting to serve as the Director of Tax and Assistant Controller for Pilot Freight Carriers, Inc. At Pilot, Vernon obtained valuable experience in multi-state income tax issues (Pilot operated in 26 states) and many tax issues other than income tax.
Throughout his career in public accounting, Vernon has worked extensively with individuals and businesses in financial and income tax planning matters, estate and gift tax planning matters, family trust and charitable giving matters, and business formations and reorganizations. His clients include professional service entities, manufacturers, wholesale and distribution companies, real estate development companies, and their owners and principals. Vernon assists expatriate individuals with their unique income tax issues. He also works with citizens of other countries who relocate to the United States in their tax matters.
