Non-conformity means to go against accepted cultural customs or standards. As such, any teenager can practice non-conformity of their own accord without necessarily being part of a group. For example, openly gay, lesbian, or transgender teenagers can be considered to be non-conformists. Sometimes groups like goths or artists are stereotyped a non-conformists, however, this is not always the case.

How do you understand what a teen girl wants?

Depends what age the teenage girl is! I've found that most teenage girls want is a since of acceptance into certain cliques or peer groups! If you don't agree with the particular groups she associates with try keeping her involved with groups like band or teen social activities where the girls generally are more well rounded and it keeps your child pretty busy!
